Thailand: Bangkok 21 - 28 May

Hot, sticky, smelly, busy - the usual descriptors. Khao San Road feels like Glastonbury but with motorbikes/taxis pushing their way thru! Talking of motorbikes - how they balance a whole family on board and avoid running people over is impressive!

Venturing out on the river/canals is a welcome breather from the hussle and bussle and gets us away from those pesky tuk-tuk drivers that are testing Chris's anger management!

Embarrassingly we did fall for the well-known tuk-tuk scam on day one which involved a nice trip to the tailor's, who tried in vain to sell us suits, only to be then dropped off at 2 TATs (Thai Tourist Info), who tried to sell us a full SE Asia tour. Still only cost 10 Baht to be driven round town all afternoon so who's the winner?!!

Not yet worked out the road rules and the pavements are obstacle courses and you're very likely to fall head first into a street vendor's grill if you're not looking where you're going!

Really enjoyed the canal boat taxi - only 11 pence and razzed us around good and proper. Almost like the New Zealand jet boats.........I hope! Mind you, the sewer smell can be overpowering even for locals!!

Lovin the cheap, tasty, spicy street food (84 pence for a meal for two!) - only one mad rush to the loo after a chilli or 2 too many for Chris!

Had 2 great afternoons lazing (one in Dusit Zoo and the other in Lumpini Park). Tis amazing how much it chills you out! Heather had a fright at the zoo when this huge lizardy thing popped its head out of the lake just in front of us!
